Page Make-Up

For all typesetting projects, we use Adobe InDesign and Arbortext 3B2 front-end workstations; powerful style-driven systems providing full page make-up capability, mixing text, extracts, footnotes, sidenotes, tables, thumb-guides, illustrations and captions.

During book pagination, widow lines are avoided automatically by ‘feathering’ (altering leading) the page. On complex make-up, page depth is achieved automatically by increasing the vertical spacing at pre-selected points within job-defined parameters. In all cases, every page is justified to a common page-depth, thus eliminating unsightly uneven pages. Hyphenation and word division are compliant with the New Oxford Spelling Dictionary.

Index and Contents Generation

Indexes and Contents pages can be provided automatically if the necessary codes are introduced at the outset.

Non-Latin Alphabets

All non-latin alphabets are available to be set including Cyrillic, Greek and Hebrew.

PDF Files

High quality Portable Document Format (PDF) files are generated from InDesign, or from our Postscript files using Adobe Acrobat’s Distiller programme.

These files contain all the customised fonts used in the document, embedded in the text, together with complete line and half-tone illustrations and provide common, viewable files for printing, Internet publishing and archiving.
